HISTORY

For more than six decades, El Tropicano Hotel was an integral part of San Antonio’s cultural evolution. Opened in 1962, this modernist icon embodied the glamour and optimism of mid-century hospitality, with upscale amenities including a tropical pool deck and Flamingo Garden as well as public spaces showcasing craftsmanship and richly layered materials. In the years that followed, El Tropicano became one of the city’s most dynamic social hubs, welcoming people the world over and reflecting the spirit of the city — something Sítio El Tropicano continues to do today.
